Learn More About Old Town Aquarium
Owned by Ian Schakowsky, Old Town Aquarium stands out for its deep passion for aquatic life.
Unlike many in the industry, Ian has logged hundreds of dives on reefs around the world to observe the behavior and natural environments of many species offered for sale at Old Town Aquarium.
He has participated in collection trips as far away as Fiji to better understand the handling of marine life at the point of collection and to assess the environmental impact of these activities.
As part of his commitment to responsible collecting—which aims to minimize environmental impact on natural reefs—Ian enthusiastically supports the availability of farm-raised specimens for collectors.

Because freshwater and saltwater marine life are his passion—and because the science of aquarium keeping is constantly evolving—Ian regularly pursues continuing education and attends annual marine aquarium conferences.
More importantly, he understands the deep satisfaction of aquarium collecting and takes great pleasure in helping both novice and experienced collectors build, maintain, and enjoy the perfect aquarium.
Old Town Aquarium is a complete resource. Collectors can stock and maintain their own aquariums from OTA’s well-stocked shelves or rely on our experts for full “turnkey” aquarium services, including design, installation, stocking, and ongoing maintenance.
In addition to serving customers personally, Ian provides intensive training to employees so they can expertly assist collectors at all levels.
